Member Spotlight - Cody Cole Brown

Flexible workspaces are popping everywhere but Venture X’s coworking spaces offer businesses amenities unlike any other. When a new business is getting off the ground, Venture X offers a budget-friendly home for businesses across countless industries. Cody Cole Brown, a member at Venture X West Palm Beach – CityPlace, is the Owner of Cole’s Media Company, a full-service Marketing Agency that specializes in the equestrian industry and luxury brands. We spent some time getting to know Cody and his company.

We asked Cody some quick Q & As to get to know him and learn about his career journey. Here’s what he had to say:

  • What made you want to get involved in this line of work?

While working for a marketing firm out of Tampa, I developed a love for the equestrian sport of show jumping. With learning about all the many equestrian disciplines, I noticed a lack in marketing professionals who specialized in the sport.

  • What has been the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job would have to be the amazing places it takes me. I’m based in Florida during the winter months and then travel all over the world during the summer to different horse shows.

  • What’s the biggest challenge that you have faced in business and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge I have faced in business is my age. I’m a young business owner which understandably might concern clients at the start of a working relationship. I’ve overcome this by making my youth my strongest attribute. I don’t claim to be an expert in anything. We live in a digital age where everything is constantly changing and if you can admit that and make it a priority every day to learn the newest and most innovative trends, you’ll find success.

  • What business tips would you like to share with others?

Don’t show people what they want, show them what they don’t know they want yet.

  • What has been your favorite part about working at Venture X?

I’ve been a member for only a couple of weeks and so far, I have loved working here. Everyone is super nice and it’s just a great working environment.

A Personal Look at Cody Cole Brown

While getting to know Cody a little better, we asked who or what had been his greatest inspiration and were pleased to hear him say “Watching businesses and people achieve their dreams and knowing that I played a small part in helping them.” It’s obvious that Cody wants to prove himself and is eager to do what it takes to help his clients find their success. He takes pride in his work and we feel that’s a quality that will get him very far.

Cody admits that he’s an old soul and that in his spare time, we’d most likely find him reading the Wall Street Journal or listening to music from his vinyl record collection. We also learned that he’s from a small German town in Michigan that is famous for celebrating Christmas 365 days a year. Now, that sounds jolly to us!

Is your business looking for a workspace that is fun and encourages networking? There’s no doubt that Venture X is the place for your business. We have new locations opening around the country every month. You’ll love working at Venture X – we offer flexible membership plans that you can afford.

Member Spotlight – Scot Duke and Mark Neace

Venture X Member Spotlight - Scot Duke and Mark Neace

Coworking spaces offer countless businesses a home while in the growing phase and really are a budget-friendly way to get things off the ground. Scot Duke and Mark Neace, business partners and members at Venture X Dallas North – Alpha Road, TX. Duke is Chief Operations Officer and Operations Director for SyncLab Media while Neace is Co-Founder and Creative Director.  We spent time getting to know these members and their role at SyncLab Media.

What does SyncLab Media do?

SyncLab Media is a video-centric digital marketing and consulting firm that helps organizations synchronize their digital marketing efforts with their business objectives to achieve better outcomes.

We asked Duke and Neace some quick Q & As to get to know them and their career journey. Here’s what each had to say:

  • What made you want to get involved in this line of work?

Duke: I enjoy Social Media and like project management, plus I have been in operations management for over 40 years.

Neace: I helped a friend out on his thesis film project during my freshman year at the University of Hawai’i and immediately changed my major to communications with a film and television focus. After many years of working in the industry, I had the unique opportunity to help beta test the YouTube platform. That experience opened my eyes to the impending need for businesses to have the right strategy and content to market their products and services directly to their prospects online.

  • What has been the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Duke: To see the look on our client’s face when they see the finished video we produce.

Neace: I’m a serial entrepreneur and small business owner. The most rewarding thing I can do every day is help another business owner achieve their vision of success through what we do at SLM.

  • What’s the biggest challenge that you have faced in business and how did you overcome it?

Duke: The biggest challenge is getting our story told to the professional who makes the decision on a business’ digital marketing strategy. We have not found a way to overcome that . . . looking to recruit a sales influencer who would fit on our team.

Neace: Many entrepreneurs and independent business owners face the challenge of wearing too many hats, but feeling insecure about bringing in partners to share the load. One of the best business decisions I have made was asking for help and bringing on partners that share the same vision.

  • What business tips would you like to share with others?

Duke: Always get help with your marketing. A business has too much invested to let poor managed digital marketing bring it down.

Neace: Be authentic and sincerely care about bringing value to each relationship. Communicate your “Why”.

  • What has been your favorite part about working at Venture X?

Duke: I enjoy helping Venture X develop its digital footprint.

Neace: We just became Venture X members, but are already expanding our network with great connections and finding out we can add value to the community.

A Personal Look at Scot Duke and Mark Neace

While getting to know Duke and Neace, we asked who or what had been their greatest inspiration and were surprised and impressed to hear Duke say Google . . . “Google contacted me to ask if I would be interested in partnering with them to launch Google+ and YouTube. I was impressed that the local staff had been following my blog for 6 years. It inspired me knowing that someone noticed what I do and LIKED it. I must be doing something right.” Neace said, “My parents have been my greatest inspiration. Sounds cliché, but they exemplified the character traits of integrity, hard work, caring for others and entrepreneurship.”

In their spare time, both Duke and Neace enjoy playing golf. Duke says he likes to travel to other states to play golf. We know golf requires incredible strategizing and concentration so we weren’t very surprised to hear that’s their sport. Interestingly, though, Duke also enjoys playing blues guitar. Maybe we convince him to play something during our next social event at Venture X Dallas North – Alpha Road. Neace makes it a point to go camping at least once a month with his son’s Scout troop and also spends time volunteering with his Rotary club and their Scout district and council. He also used his love of golf to work as a professional caddie with well-known golfers and celebrities during, Futures and LPGA tours, and many Pro-Am events.

Are you full of ideas and looking for a convenient and fun place to spend your working hours each week? At Venture X, you’ll be able to network and share ideas with creative people like Scot Duke and Mark Neace on a daily basis. Venture X has new locations opening each month. We would love nothing more than to watch your business or startup take off within our office spaces. You’ll love working at Venture X with our affordable and flexible membership plans.

Member Spotlight – Lindy Singer

Venture X Member Spotlight – Lindy Singer

Coworking spaces have grown tremendously in popularity in recent years and are the perfect solution for the changing needs of startups and other small businesses. Lindy Singer, a member at Venture X Richardson, TX, is Chief Marketing Officer and Chief of Staff for Modo. We spent some time getting to know Lindy and her story.

First things first, who is Modo?

Modo is a disruptive payments technology startup that “has been making waves in the payments industry since 2010,” shared Lindy. Lindy went on to explain, “We are focused on reducing friction throughout the payments industry in order to do the most good for the most people. Modo works to reduce the friction between payment connections for some of the largest players in the game including Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, FIS, and Klarna.” There is no doubt that the way we make payments on a personal level and as entrepreneurs is changing tremendously.

Modo at Venture X Richardson, TX

Lindy shared that Modo moved into their Venture X space in Richardson in April 2018. They enjoyed customizing their space to fit their needs. Lindy said, “We have a different set up than most because there are 15 employees working out of our Venture X office. We have our own conference room and a central meeting area in a dedicated Modo office within Venture X.”

We asked Lindy some quick Q & As to get to know her and journey with Modo better. Here’s what she had to say:

  • What made you want to get involved in this line of work?

I wasn’t looking for a job in the payments industry, but am so happy that the opportunity came my way. Fintech is buzzing because of the constant innovations we’re seeing in online and in-store checkouts and the changing ways people are sending and receiving money all around the globe. Although we are seeing tons of innovation, the legacy players such as banks and the networks still make up the backbone of the industry. Modo comes in to manage and optimize the connections necessary to bridge the gap between the old and the new.

  • What has been the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Since Modo is still a small company with 28 employees around the globe, the work we are doing is setting the stage for the future of something greater, and we all truly believe that. That belief means that we are constantly testing our offerings and pushing the company into the next phase.

  • What’s the biggest challenge that you have faced in business and how did you overcome it?

Modo’s technology can enable a wide variety of payments products and services, but that doesn’t mean we have the resources and bandwidth internally to pursue every project that comes our way. Knowing what challenges we should be focusing on and constantly aiming for excellence in our deliveries has given us a reputation for impressive and rapid deployments and has left us with a list of very happy clients.

  • Who or what was the greatest inspiration on your journey?

One of our advisors is Dee Hock, CEO and Founder Emeritus of Visa. He is one of the most interesting people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The way he organized Visa in a ‘chaordic’ way was the inspiration behind many of Modo’s organizing principles. Modo employees (or ModoNauts as we call ourselves) are given a lot of freedom to make decisions and act on ideas.

A Personal Look at Lindy Singer

When we asked Lindy for business tips she could share, she kept it simple and yet, her message is quite profound, “People need a purpose. Is your company giving them one?” It makes you wonder when you look at your own team, what motivates these people? What drives them?

In her spare time, Lindy enjoys skiing and says she tries to get out to ski in Colorado as often as possible. She also enjoys working out, cooking semi-healthy meals, going on walks and meeting up with friends for meals. It seems to us like Lindy has found the work-life balance that many struggle to find and we hope that working at Venture X contributes positively to that sacred balance. On a lighter note, Lindy is one of 4 daughters in her family and is very proud of each of her sisters. Just ask her, she’ll tell you all about them!

If you’re looking for a great place to work where you can also network and share ideas with other people, Venture X might be just what you’ve been looking for. With new locations opening every month, our network is growing. Need to get your business or startup off the ground without the expense of renting an office space, with long lease commitments? You can’t beat working at Venture X with our easy to understand membership plans.

Coworking spaces are all the rage and since 2007 have definitely come of age. According to Forbes Magazine, in 2007, “only 14 documented coworking spaces existed in the United States.” With the more than 11,000 spaces currently in the US, and more than 26,000 spaces projected to host 3.8 million people by 2020, we think they are on to something. Driving this trend, millennials entering the workplace seem to be bucking the system every way they can, renting instead of owning homes, and preferring city living to sprawling out in the suburbs, as well as impacting traditional work environments. Starting their own companies rather than climbing the corporate ladder, this emerging workforce resonates with joining coworking spaces for the versatile atmosphere and the value added collaboratory spirit these shared spaces offer.

At Venture X Naples, we welcome people from all industries from startups to established brands, from tech companies to fitness and healthcare groups, to lawyers and freelance writers – anyone who is drawn to our entrepreneurial vibe. This month, at Venture X Naples, our member spotlight shines on someone who’s in the right place for his line of work.

Anil Nimmagadda, private investor

Starting out as a software engineer in 2013, Nimmagadda discovered that his interest, well, maybe more than a casual interest, his passion, in fact, was fueled by the world of investing. Specifically, he realized that Value Investing was where he wanted to go. You may know Value Investing from Berkshire Hathaway’s chairperson, Warren Buffett, not a bad role model.

Value Investing involves buying stocks/shares of valuable companies at a discount price and holding onto them for a long time. Nimmagadda says that after further exploration and experimentation, “I figured out that within the domain of Value Investing the specific execution style that suits my personality is that of a ‘focus portfolio’ with long holding periods.”  Nimmagadda explained further that in a focused portfolio, investors buy concentrated positions in 3 to 5 companies and hold them for “long periods.”

Nimmagadda makes it happen in 2017

Self-taught, Nimmagadda then began reading in his spare time what turned out to be somewhere around 200 books on the subject of investing and finance in order to make the transition from software engineer to a private investor.  Early in 2017, for a couple of reasons he didn’t go into, Nimmagadda opened the doors to his new career, working for himself, full time as a private investor.

It’s not a job if you love what you’re doing

When we asked Nimmagadda about the most rewarding aspect of his job, he told us at the risk of sounding “folksy or indulging in clichés,” that so far, his profession didn’t feel like a job, that it had not degraded to that level yet. “When that happens, it’s time to switch,” Nimmagadda added, “I have that much fun doing what I do.”

Patience is definitely a virtue

In Nimmagadda’s first year as a private investor, he discovered that while many people who have money to invest, as well as other investors he’s come across, very few share his philosophy regarding holding on to investments for longer periods and “giving the ideas time to grow the wealth. You just have to be patient,” Nimmagadda said. Think Warren Buffett.

When asked for a business tip Nimmagadda would like to share with others, “It’s better to be an independent thinker and go with your gut and be wrong,” he said, “than to be superficial or engage in an activity that doesn’t leverage your skills and potential and be successful.”

On his journey to his goal as a private investor, Nimmagadda, as we know, devoured a good many books. His greatest inspiration? Theodore Dreiser’s 1914 tome, The Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr. by Ron Chernow, the sequel to The Financier, The Titan chronicles John D. Rockefeller’s life and is the second book in Dreiser’s Trilogy of Desire series. In his spare time, Nimmagadda reads books ranging from chess to farming and enjoys watching movies and film biographies.

Fun fact about our self-made private investor

Nimmagadda shared that he tried tandem skydiving once. This guy loves a challenge. Comforted, “but not that much :-),” by the fact that his instructor had 10,000 jumps under his belt, Nimmagadda said, “It was exhilarating and scary as hell. The parachute was definitely better than the free fall!!”

Venture X Naples: Staff is great, location is awesome

As a Venture X Naples member since early 2015, “It’s been great,” Nimmagadda said. “The staff here is an asset. The location is awesome.” Nimmagadda enjoys the “Naples Vibe” and his daily walks in Mercato. Located near many popular dining, shopping and entertainment venues, Mercato is the heart of Naples and convenient for Venture X Naples members, when a break is in order. Mercato’s features places to impress new clients and eateries to host a working lunch or celebratory dinner.

Excellent cross networking and exposure to new ideas

Venture X Naples’ biggest advantage for Nimmagadda centers around, “the excellent cross networking and exposure to ideas and opportunities that Venture X presents. When Nimmagadda needed a website, he found the right person here at Venture X. A startup working out of Venture X Naples presented an interesting investment opportunity for Nimmagadda, as well. Evaluating a small business, with the intention to buy it for free cash flow, Nimmagadda found a knowledgeable team working in that domain at Venture X. “They gave me actionable insights into the inner workings of businesses in that domain,” Nimmagadda shared, “I even came across a good private equity opportunity right here and I am pursuing it.”

Venture X Naples might be just the motivating environment you need to get your business or startup off the ground without the expense of renting an office space, with long lease commitments. You can’t beat working around like-minded professionals, in a well-appointed, comfortable and accommodating environment that naturally fosters collaboration with networking benefits.
